Under 19 Division 2 Cup Final

Shannon Hibs 3 Corbally 2

Shannon Hibs put the disappointment of finishing 2nd in the league to win the divisional cup final with a magnificent performance to defeat a gallant Corbally United team 3 2.The match played under lights in Jackman Park drew a good crowd who witnessed a fine display from both sides. After a bright opening by both sides it was Corbally who drew 1st blood, a mistimed challenge by Hibs keeper Damian Casey left the ref with no alternative but to point to the spot. Lucca Tedde dually obliged from the spot to put Corbally 1 0 in front after 25 mins. Hibs continued to keep calm and played their passing game and with a few half chances were unlucky to be 1 down at the break.

The 2nd half started at a fast pace as Hibs went in search of the equalizer, on 55 mins they managed just that, a driven free kick by Jason Mcnally evaded everyone and flew into the goal to the delight of the hibs support, Hibs controlled matters with Jack Kelly and Stephen Tuohy commanding in midfield, on 65 minutes a probing ball found Asher Wayah in sight of goal, a foot block from the Corbally fullback resulted in Hibs being awarded a penalty, Jack Kelly obliged by driving the ball into the roof of the net 2 1 Hibs. On 75 mins Hibs seemed to put the result beyond doubt when centre half Alex Cole got on the end of a cross and prodded home, Hibs felt they had done enough but Corbally fought back gamely and in injury time they scored a 2nd to leave a tense minute or two.The whistle sounded to the delight of Shannon Hibs and Jack Kelly was presented with the cup by the LDMC officals. A thoroughly deserved win which delighted the management team of Sean Gunn and John Kelly.
