Mon 2 May 2011 - Under 11s Crown Division One Champions! < back

Congratulations to the Under 11s team who were crowned league champions after a top of the table final game against Granville. Well done to the team and to managers Damien Halpin and Michelle McGettigan for all their hard work throughout the season.

Granville 1 - 3 Shannon Hibernians
This top of the table clash was played in Glenbrook on a fine sunny Friday evening with both teams on level points and this being their last league game of the season. It was down to the wire for both teams with a draw of no use to either team but Hibs may have had the edge winning this fixture earlier in the season. The game started off well with Hibs having the earlier chances with a shot from Lee Devitt coming off the post and Neill McGowan shooting the rebound over the bar. Hibs settled well and scored from a Danny Harty corner in to the box were it fell to Damian Halpin in the six yard box to drive it in to the roof of the net on the half volley. Hibs lead was cut short just before the break to make it 1-1. Granville nearly made it 2-1 to the home side only for the Hibs keeper Darragh Lohan pulled off a great save in the final minute of the first half. Hibs started the second half much stronger and pushed for their second goal and were rewarded when they were awarded a penalty after the ball was handled in the box from a Conor Ferns cross. Damien Halpin stepped up to cooly shoot it to the keepers top left corner and leave the keeper rooted to the line. With Hibs now on a high they pressed on looking for that comfort goal and it came when Lee Wall put a ball over the top on to Conor Ferns path who then controlled the ball and beat two players to slot it home to make it 3-1. Hibs had a fourth goal disallowed from Adam Ryan when he was deemed to have pushed the Granville player. All in all this was a hard fought game for both teams after a hard season and is a great reward to the Hibs team after their hard work and great performances all season.
