Sun 11 Jul 2010 - Ladies Team Progress to the Quarter Final of the FAI Junior Cup < back

Ladies FAI Junior Cup
Shannon Hibernians 5 - 2 Crosshaven

Shannon Hibs advanced to the 1/4 final of the Ladies FAI Junior Cup with a comfortable victory over cork side, Crosshaven. The match was played in excellent conditions in Ballycasey in front of a big crowd. Both teams started the game tentatively showing some nerves in the opening exchanges. However, it was Hibs who had the better of the early chances, particularly through Barbara Nzvaura who was a constant threat on the wing. It was her good work that led to the first goal, following her cross which was met by Gill Purcell who fired towards goal only for a Crosshaven defender to block it out to the awaiting Leanne Boyle who struck the ball into the net to score her first goal of the season. To Crosshavens credit, they began to compete more and the equaliser came following a long ball which caused difficulties in the Hibs defence and resulted in a well taken goal for Crosshaven. The sides went into half-time 1-1.

Shannon Hibs came out fighting in the second half and dominated right from the off. Gill Purcell scored Hibs second of the game with a well taken strike following some good work form Ashling Hughes. Michelle Clancy added Hibs 3rd shortly afterwards and the game was over as a contest. Kim McCarthy, Nikki Hall and Brenda Wall were introduced and Hibs started to pass the ball really well and enjoy themselves. Sinead Toomey and Kim McCarthy added late goals before Crosshaven pulled one back right at the death. Hibs now look forward to the ¼ final draw.

Scorers: Leanne Boyle, Gill Purcell, Michelle Clancy, Sinead Toomey and Kim McCarthy
