Mon 15 Mar 2010 - A Team & B Team both win to stay top of their leagues < back

League Division 1B
Shannon Hibs 3 - 1 Hospital
Hibs played host to Hospital in the league with Hibs lying in first place and Hospital currently third in the league.
Hospital started the better and had their first real chance of the game on fifteen minutes with a half volley from just outside the box but the shot was well saved by Darren Whelan in the Hibs net. Ten minutes later Hospital took a deserved lead, Hospital were awarded a free kick just outside the box, the free was well struck and looked to be going wide but the Hospital forward managed to get a foot to the ball to knock the ball past Darren Whelan. Hibs responded well and were level on thirty minutes, the ball was played forward to Thomas Reidy who controlled the ball on his chest and played the ball into Brian McGurrian, he passed the ball to Colm Treacy who struck home from close range.

In the second half Hibs improved their game and should have taken the lead when Reidy crossed the ball into the box, Treacy got a touch to the ball which fell to Pa Divanney but his shot from close range went over the bar. The teams were fairly well matched and neither side were creating any real chances despite Hibs having the majority of the possession. The game changed on thirty minutes in the second half when Hibs were awarded a free kick outside the box, the ball was sent into the box and was easily saved by Hospital keeper who then kicked out at Finbar Neville as he was running back and the ref awarded a penalty which Shane O'Connor who had come on from Thomas Reidy duly dispatched into the back of the net. Hospital upped their game in the last five minutes of the match as they pushed for an equaliser and with only a minute to go in the game were awarded a free kick outside the box. The shot was well saved by Whelan who sent the ball down the left wing to Brian McGurrian. McGurrian who was a thorn in the side of the Hospital defense for the whole game cut into the box and shot passed the keeper to score a well deserved goal and to secure the points for Hibs who remain at the top of the table.
