Shannon Hibernians AFC Shannon
Sun 19 Apr 2009 - Weekend Result Roundup < back
League Division 1B
Holycross 0 - 2 Park AFC
Park continued their great run in the league with a hard fought victory over a determined Holycross team. Davy Wall and Pa Canavan scored for Park which sees them continue their push for promotion. The league is one of the tightest in years with Park and four other teams all right in contention for the league title this year with only 7 games remaining

League 4 Divisional Cup
Park AFC B 3 - 0 Shannon Town B
An accomplished performance saw Park winning comfortably against their local rivals in the divisional cup. James Fitzgerald got Parks first goal early in the second half. Park then got their second when the Shannon Town keeper failed to properly clear an awkward high back pass, Gavin Lundy was quickest to react and slotted the ball into the back of the net. Park then got their third goal two minutes later when Gerard McGettigan played a sublime ball from just outside his own box up to Gavin Lundy who ran through on goal and shot from just inside the box. The Shannon Town keeper managed to get a touch but failed to keep the ball out. Park should have had a fourth goal after Damien McGettigan
managed to find space in the byline five yards from the Shannon Town goal, he squared the ball to James Fitzgerald but with the goal at his mercy, he failed to connect properly and his shot was saved. The B team continue to go from strength to strength and are now into the next round of the cup and are also right in contention for the league title this year as well.

Youth Division 1
Park AFC 0 - 1 Kilmallock
Kilmallock came out on top in a tightly contested top of the table clash. In a game with few clear chances for either team, the deadlock was broken with twenty minutes gone in the first half with a great chip from just in side the left hand side of the box that went in the top corner. Park pressed for an equaliser but the Kilmallock defence held. Park stay top but have played a game in hand over Kilmallock.
