Fri 26 Dec 2008 - St. Stephens Day Charity Match 2008 < back
Park held their annual St. Stephen's Day charity match with a combination of the Park A and B team taking on The Legends with this years team comprising of many of the victorious Over 40's Riverside team who won the 2008 Over 40's Annual Charity Tournament in Limerick. Despite the cold conditions there was a good turnout to the match and the spectators were treated to a very entertaining game. As with each year The Legends had their sights set on an upset and were keen to show that there was some skill and pace left in their legs. The game itself was played in great spirits and there was some great craic on and off the field. The spectators were treated to a very entertaining match with the Legends taking the lead through Brain Keane in the first half. Park then levelled in the middle of the second half with Gavin O'Donnell breaking through the Legends stern defence and slotting home. But it was the Legends who had last laugh with Michael Hickey grabbing the winner in the last ten minutes with a well-taken goal from two yards out.

The game itself was a great success, but the main focus each year is to raise money for a local charity. This year over €1000 was raised in aid of Milford Hospice, with the spectators at the match donating very generously and the patrons of the Shannon Knights doing like wise
at the after match revelry. Park AFC would like to thank all those who participated in the game and to all those who contributed on the day.
