Tue 1 Apr 2008 - Schoolboys impress in Solar World Cup < back
A contingent of approximately 40 schoolboys players and adults travelled over to Liverpool on the Easter weekend to take part in the Solar World Cup, a schoolboy tournament involving teams from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The tournament brings together some of the best teams from the four countries and is great experience for the schoolboys involved to play against teams from other regions. The U14's and the U15's both took part in the competition with both sides doing very well. The U14's won two of their group games and lost one to progress to the plate semi-final which they won, unfortunately the
were beaten 3 – 0 in the final. With the relatively small squad compared to the teams they were facing they were very impressive to reach this stage. In addition to this, out of the four teams in their group two reached the final of the cup, while the other two reached the final of the plate, which again highlights the how well they did in going so far in the tournament.

Meanwhile the Under 15's topped their group winning two matches and drawing one to reach the cup semi-final, which they also one. Unfortunately after going a goal up in the first half, they conceded twice in the second to lose 2 – 1. During the course of the tournament both teams played five games in three days, which was quite demanding on the young players. In addition to this, they also took part in a coaching session with Everton Football Club academy coaches with all players trying their best to impress! Over the course of the tournament, the players stayed in the University of Liverpool and had the opportunity to take in the Everton vs. West Ham in the Premier League. The coaches that brought the players over commented on the impeccable behaviour of all the schoolboys over the duration of the trip and were very impressed with the organisation of the tournament and was greatly enjoyed by player and coach alike.

Park AFC would like to thank all those who participated in the fundraising for the trip and to all those who contributed in a very memorable tournament for all those involved.
